Sculptor Raghunath Mohapatra to get Padma Vibhushan


Eminent temple architect and sculptor Raghunath Mohapatra will be conferred with Padma Vibhushan award, the second highest civilian award after Bharat Ratna, by President of India. Pranab Mukherjee.
The union government has nominated Mohapatra for this honour in recognition of his outstanding contribution towards promotion of art, sculpture and culture. Mohapatra expressed his happiness on being considered for the award. He stated that he had got a call from the Union Home Secretary about his nomination for the prestigious award.
Born in Puri, Mohapatra has been awarded Padma Shri by the then President of India Fakiruddin Ali Ahmed in 1976 and honoured with the prestigious Padma Bhushan award in 2001 by former President KR Narayanan.
He was also nominated by the Ministry of External Affairs as a member of Prestigious Indian Council for Cultural Relation (ICCR) in 2000.
